Washington uses the wiper-swept test rather than a measurement, joining Massachusetts and Maine — the area the blades cover, not a length you can measure against.
Federal regulations set a floor beneath every state rule: no crack or chip larger than three-quarters of an inch across, no two cracks within three inches of each other, no intersecting cracks, and nothing directly in the driver’s view.

Does Washington waive the windshield deductible?
No. Only Florida, Kentucky and South Carolina require the deductible to be waived under comprehensive cover, and Massachusetts requires insurers to offer glass cover with a $0 or $100 deductible option. Arizona, Connecticut, Minnesota and New York permit a no-deductible add-on you must elect.

Can a chip be repaired instead in Washington?
The repair thresholds are national rather than state-set. Chips up to about the size of a quarter and cracks up to roughly three inches are usually repairable; three to six inches depends on depth and position; past six inches usually means replacement.
