What to include in your request

The more detail you give us about the damage, the faster we can connect you with the right company. The most useful information is where the damage sits on the glass, roughly how long or wide it is, and whether a camera is mounted behind your windshield — that last point matters because ADAS recalibration is required after any windshield replacement on a vehicle equipped with one, and its cost ($150–$600) needs to be in the quote from the start.

If the damage is in your direct line of sight, or if it runs to the edge of the glass, include that too. Those two factors typically rule out repair regardless of size, and knowing them up front means we can skip straight to replacement options rather than going back and forth.

Repair or replacement — how we decide

We assess the damage description against three national thresholds: chips up to roughly the diameter of a quarter and cracks up to about three inches are usually repairable; three to six inches depends on depth, position and whether the inner layer is involved; anything longer typically means replacement. We will tell you which applies and explain why, so you know what the local company is likely to recommend before they arrive.

If repair is the answer, say so — a repairable chip costs less, preserves the factory seal, and keeps the original glass in the vehicle. We have nothing to gain from steering you toward a more expensive option. See our cost guide and contractor checklist if you want to read more before requesting a quote.
